JoAnn Johnson

Principal Conductor

JoAnn Johnson graduated from Quinton High School in 1976. She attended the University of Tulsa, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 1980 and a Master of Teaching Arts in 1987. A veteran educator with a 36-year career in Oklahoma, she recently retired from Glenpool Public Schools. During her tenure, the district grew from Class 2A to Class 5A, and her bands consistently earned superior ratings at contests. In 2018, she was inducted into the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame. JoAnn remains active as a clinician and consultant for area band programs and enjoys equestrian trail riding in her free time.

 

Pam Terhune

Associate Conductor

Pam Terhune, a retired band director and music teacher, is a graduate of Jenks High School. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Music Education from the University of Oklahoma. She concluded her teaching career at Glenpool Public Schools, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2014. Currently, she teaches private flute lessons and performs with various musical organizations.

Ted Bachmann

Principal Conductor

Ted Bachmann served as the principal conductor of the Tulsa Community Band from January 2012 through December 2017. He earned both a Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Tulsa, where he studied clarinet and saxophone under Dwight Dailey and flute under Jan Coffey Dailey. Ted taught instrumental music in the Jenks, Sugar Land (TX), Sand Springs, and Union public school districts, retiring from the latter in 2008. Subsequently, he served as an adjunct instructor of music education at the University of Tulsa, as well as an adjunct instructor of clarinet and assistant conductor of the concert band at Tulsa Community College.

Martha Kramer

The late Martha Kramer, a 1966 graduate of Sapulpa High School and student of band director George Brite, went on to receive a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Tulsa in 1970. She served as a band director for several Oklahoma schools, including Morris, Edmond, Sapulpa, and Jenks. Additionally, she was a guest clinician for numerous regional honor bands and a longtime solo and ensemble adjudicator for various district contests. A member of the Tulsa Community Band for over 20 years, Martha performed on the oboe when she was not conducting.

Dwight M. Dailey

The late Dwight M. Dailey directed the Tulsa Community Band for twenty-five years. He graduated from the University of Michigan with Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees in woodwind instruments. During his thirty-seven-year tenure at the University of Tulsa, he directed the TU Band, taught clarinet and saxophone, and founded the TU Jazz Band. Additionally, he served as the principal clarinetist and assistant conductor for the Tulsa Philharmonic for many years.

Paris York

Associate Conductor Emeritus
1934 - 2015

The late Paris York served in the Third Division Marine Band from 1952 to 1955 and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 with a Master of Music Education. As the director of the Pride of Broken Arrow marching band for many years, he led the ensemble to a Grand National Championship and was inducted into the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame in 1997. His bands consistently received superior ratings throughout his career. Additionally, he was the founder and co-owner of The Music Store, Inc. in Tulsa. In January 2011, the Oklahoma Music Educators Association honored him with its first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award. Paris played tenor saxophone and bass clarinet with the Tulsa Community Band and served as the associate conductor for 16 years.
